In a statement to PTI today, the makers of " Padmavati ", Viacom18 Motion Pictures, announced they had "voluntarily" deferred the release of the magnum opus. The film features Deepika Padukone , Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in lead roles. The film has been mired in controversy over conjectures that it "distorts history" regarding Rajput queen Padmavati , a contention that Bhansali has repeatedly denied. (more...)

Representational image. A search operation resulted in an encounter in Bandipora district when the militants hiding there fired on the search party of the security forces, who retaliated. The top police officer also added in another tweet that Lashkar commanders Zargam and Mehmood have also been killed in the operation. Police had not released a motive in the shooting as of the afternoon of October 20.
