Oldham Upsets Fulham, Newport Beats Leicester in FA Cup Giant Killing Sunday

Newport striker Padraig Amond

Sheffield United have lost a home tie in The FA Cup to non-League opposition for the first time since Darlington beat them 1-0 in January 1911.

Defender Denis Odoi gave Fulham the lead shortly after halftime, before loan striker Sam Surridge levelled from the spot in the 76th minute.

Oldham keeper Daniel Ivarsen then saved a spot-kick from Aleksandar before Callum Lang netted a dramatic late victor.

Newport manager Michael Flynn was ecstatic at the final whistle and described the victory as being in his top three career highlights.

Puel saw his side beat Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton - while losing to Cardiff City - over the festive period, and his decision to make seven changes backfired when Jamille Matt marked an outstanding display by heading home in the 10th minute from Robbie Willmott's pinpoint cross.

League Two Newport - who are 74 places below Leicester in the football pyramid - stunned the Premier League side at Rodney Parade on Sunday. 'I feel extremely proud.

They were not without their own attacking quality but the second half was backs-to-the-wall stuff for the hosts until Rachid Ghezzal thundered in an equaliser for the Foxes eight minutes from the end.

'We had loads of half-chances, some very good positions where we should score, and on another day they all go in.

Striker Shaquile Coulthirst scored a 21st-minute penalty to send Barnet through to the fourth round, where they'll be the only non-league team to feature in the round of 32.

Morgan, though, believes the minnows' win was undeserved, explaining: "It was a hard day and the magic of the FA Cup happened, definitely".

City boss Pep Guardiola named a strong team with the starting eleven featuring the likes of Ederson, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling.

Championship leaders Leeds United suffered a 2-1 defeat at Queens Park Rangers, joining second-placed Norwich City who were beaten by Portsmouth on Saturday.
