After 16 Seasons, Bengals Pull Plug on Marvin Lewis As Coach

Marvin Lewis

According to ESPN, Lewis endorsed former Browns head coach Hue Jackson to be his replacement.

Despite a winning percentage barely above.500, Lewis is the winningest coach in Cincinnati's history.

Joseph's two seasons in charge featured a record of 11 wins and 21 losses. From a New England perspective, where the longest-tenured head coach doesn't appear to ready to retire, the openings present opportunties for teams to poach either offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels or de facto defensive coordinator Brian Flores from Bill Belichick's staff. It's the first time in 46 years that the Broncos experienced back-to-back losing seasons.

The Broncos coach was the first official dismissal of the day, as consecutive losing seasons contributed to costing Joseph his job. In a statement, the team said the decision was mutual.

The Cincinnati Bengals let head coach Marvin Lewis go after 16 years without a playoff win on Monday, and Lewis had some kind things to say about Jackson, a good friend and assistant of his for years, during a final press conference.

There was a silver lining for the Cardinals, who get the number one overall draft pick courtesy of finishing last. Lewis is leaving with a 131-122-3 record and is leaving with the most playoff wins but the dark cloud is the 8-26 record against major rival The Pittsburg Steelers. Well, Cincinnati was a woeful franchise who had missed the playoffs 12 years in a row when Lewis arrived. "I regret I haven't been able to provide them with the No. 1 goal of being world champions".

Rumors of Lewis being fired by the team have been looming for years.

In addition to Gase's firing, general manager Chris Grier will oversee football operations and report directly to Ross, while executive vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum has been reassigned within the organization.
