Solskjaer smile boosting United already says Young

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Mourinho, who replaced Dutchman Louis van Gaal in 2016, won the Europa League and League Cup in his first campaign but his third season was dominated by media reports of a rift with Pogba, while United laboured on the pitch playing boring soccer.

The 5-1 win at the Cardiff City Stadium was the first time United have scored five in a Premier League match since Sir Alex Ferguson's last game in charge more than five years ago.

"I don't think he (Solskjaer) has stopped smiling", Young said.

Solskjaer's side resembled the cavalier United teams of yesteryear as full-backs raided high and wide and midfielders flooded into the penalty area to support the strikers. "Not everything worked well, but (some) things went well", he told the British media.

"From the outside all the players love him, all the fans love him".

And according to the 33-year-old, it wasn't just the players who were unhappy under Mourinho's reign.

"There is a phrase in football about players "not playing for the manager", which I have seen happen a thousand times", Ferguson said.

"As you will all be aware, the legendary Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is our new boss and we couldn't have started off upon his return to the club in a better way".

Shaw added: "It's not very nice when something as big as that happens at the club, but I think we all as players and as a team show respect in what happened".

"Sir Alex influenced me with everything, to be fair, the way he's dealt with people, the way he was manager of the club, how he kept 25 worldwide players happy and hungry wanting to improve, but also the staff in and around the place".
