YouTuber punishes package thieves with glitter bomb, fart sprayer

Package thief caught out by glitter bomb

Former NASA engineer Mark Rober recently spent months creating a glitter-bomb fart-spray camera trap to capture images of elusive package thieves.

Smart home company Nest announced an over-the-air update for its indoor Cam IQ security camera that brings support for Google Assistant.

A colorful mushroom cloud of glitter awaits package thieves in Mark Rober's prank.

In brief: Stealing an Amazon package off someone's front porch has become a popular crime, and while police are proactively trying to combat it, one YouTube channel is fighting back through the magic of glitter and fart spray. When he brought the video to the police, they said it wasn't worth their time to investigate it, so he made a decision to take matters into his own hands.

Rober created a device that would spray thieves with glitter and fart spray upon opening the package.

This is unlike the typical bait package with a simple Global Positioning System that police have started leaving around in recent years to thwart thieves.

A custom circuit circuit board will check the Global Positioning System location of the package when it's moved from the porch.

But Robert went one step further - including four phones recording the thieves' reactions. Once completed, he slapped a packing label addressed from the "Home Alone" character Kevin McCallister to movie villains Harry and Marv - a nice, figurative bow on the present.

After thieves take the package, the phones record footage of the thieves getting glitter bombed, which is hilarious.

The Youtube video has been watched over 8 million times since it was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday by Mr Rober.

"The moral of the story is just don't take other peoples" stuff, Rober said in the video.
