Piers Morgan's controversial tweet on Pele's criticism of Lionel Messi

Pele blasts Messi, calls Barcelona star

Regularly presented with questions regarding the world's greatest ever player, the Brazilian legend Pele has somewhat spectacularly claimed that the limited Messi can't reasonably be compared with his fellow Argentine Diego Maradona, nor with Pele himself.

Lionel Messi was a product of Barcelona's La Masia academy, joining as a 13-year-old.

According to the football legend, 5-time Ballon d'Or victor Lionel Messi is less "complete" than himself or Diego Maradona, citing Messi's generally one-sided kicks and no headers.

"How can you compare?" Pele said he used to head the ball well, shoot with the left foot as well as the right foot but the current Argentina star Messi just shoots from one foot and does not even head the ball well.

Messi this week missed out on netting a sixth Ballon d'Or for the world's best player, and incredibly only finished fifth on the list as Croatia and Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric walked home with the accolade.

Messi has also won five Golden Balls, nine La Liga titles, four Champions League crowns and three Club World Cups.

O Rei also said he is in better health after some surgeries over the past year, but is not yet 100%.

However, Pele is not ready to accept he made a stunning attack on this one-footed attacker.

Is Lionel Messi the best player ever? Much better. Was still Beckenbauer, Cruyff. Won the world Cup.

"It is hard to defend Neymar for all the things he does outside of football..."

"I think that Neymar is a better player than he is, but in Europe, everyone talks more about Mbappe".

"I spoke with him and reminded him of his ability", said Pele, who went on to ponder on nascent football stars and French player Kylian Mbappe, among others.

"I scored more goals than my father". We talked and I explained: 'The God of football gave you the gift.
