NYPD Are Searching For A Bloke Who Dropped Engagement Ring Down Drain

In this image taken from surveillance video provided by the New York City Police Department a man tries to see the engagement ring that he dropped down a utility grate on New York's Times Square

Shortly after successfully proposing, a man accidentally dropped his new fiancé's ring into a utility grate on Friday in New York City's Times Square. "WANTED", it said. "He was so excited that he dropped the ring in a grate".

The couple reportedly went to the police for help, but officials were unable to locate the ring and the couple left. The department is now working on getting the ring back to its rightful owner in Europe.

On Twitter and Facebook Sunday, the NYPD issued an all-hands bulletin.

Police have released surveillance photos of the couple and are asking the public to help reunite them with the ring.

"We are so happy, we can't believe it", the young couple said after discovering their lost engagement ring had been found.

With the help of dozens of passers-by they managed to get the grate off and search underneath for at least two hours.

The man and woman were in Times Square late Friday night, when the man proposed to his girlfriend at 11:55 p.m. Here are some more photos, does anyone recognize them?

Both John and Daniella took to Twitter to express their delight and thank the NYPD officers involved.

The NYPD was finally able to recover the ring Saturday morning, the Daily News reported. "I hope the couple is found soon", a Twitter user wrote.

But a happy ending was coming for what the department called its "almost engaged" couple.
