Finland President Says He Talked Forest Surveillance, Not Rakes, With Trump

California's Deadliest Fire Is Seen Engulfing Paradise in'Astonishing Satellite Images

Five more sets of human remains were discovered in the Camp Fire area in Northern California, raising the death toll to 76, authorities said Saturday.

"There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor", he tweeted.

"The information I am providing you is raw data and we find there is the likely possibility that the list contains duplicate names", he said.

Along the way, it's taken down nearly 10,000 homes and killed more than 70 people, making it the deadliest fire in California's history (more than 1,000 people are still missing as well).

Trump also was expected to stop in Southern California, where a gunman killed a dozen people at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks on November 7 before committing suicide.

The blaze has devoured an area roughly the size of Chicago, destroying almost 10,000 homes and more than 2,500 other buildings.

In Paradise, Mr Trump praised the efforts of local law enforcement, politicians and the teams searching for survivors on the ground. His comments were widely criticized by fire officials.

"I was with the president of Finland, and he said: 'We have a much different [sic]., we're a forest nation.' And they spent a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things, and they don't have any problem", he added.

But days after threatening to cut federal funding to California over the alleged "gross mismanagement" of forests, Trump tweeted Friday that he was looking forward to meeting Brown and Newsom, saying, "We are with you!" President Donald Trump witnessed the devastation Saturday, accompanied by Gov.

The governor also said he did not press the issue of climate change during Mr. Trump's visit.

Trump has always been skeptical of man's role in global warming despite mounting scientific evidence that the burning of fossil fuels is heating the planet and leading to more extreme weather.

Paradise, a town of about 27,000 residents, has been devastated as a result of the blaze that's been ongoing since November 8.

Even as hundreds of searchers sift through the rubble in the town of Paradise looking for the dead, almost 1,300 people remain unaccounted for more than a week after the fire sparked in Butte County, Sheriff Kory Honea announced Saturday night.

A list of people unaccounted for has nearly 1,300 names on it. Officials hope they find those people at shelters, or that missing people were simply without phone service and will eventually call in, or that they will figure out duplicate names when reconciling the list. "There are just too many people in the same situation..."

President Trump visited Paradise, Calif., with Gov. -elect Gavin Newsom and Mayor Jody Jones. One of the few suggestions of dissent came from a protester along the route of the president's motorcade who held a sign that said, "Moron, we're in a drought".

"Let's hope he gets us some help", said Couch, who voted for Trump and whose rental home burned down last week.

Tim Bolin, the executive pastor of Paradise Alliance Church, said that his house and church were two of the few buildings that survived but all of his children's homes were destroyed. The fire has burned 146,000 acres and was 50 percent contained Friday.

Seventy-one people have died in the fire and more than 1,000 are reported missing.

Much of the rescue work is now focused on Paradise, a community that was home to many retirees who found themselves unable to get out in time.

Rescuers with sniffer dogs have been conducting house-to-house searches.

Wherever Trump got the notion that raking parts of California - be it entire forest floors or the area around little nut trees - could have prevented the Camp Fire, not many people seem to agree.

"It seems that many more people are missing than anyone thought even possible", Trump told reporters in Washington, saying he looked forward to meeting fire responders and firefighters who have been "incredibly fearless".
