Oprah surprises Georgia residents while campaigning for Stacey Abrams

'I approve this message': Oprah makes rare political appearance in support of Georgian candidate

Kemp is trying to prevent Democrats from establishing Georgia as a legitimate presidential battleground state.

Kemp is a staunch conservative who has embraced U.S. President Donald Trump and the administration's hard-line on immigration.

Staunch conservative Kemp, who embraces Trump's hard-line on immigration, brandishes a gun in his campaign ads, blasts Abrams as a tool of "socialists" and "Hollywood elites" who "want to turn Georgia into California". But she also said the election is about issues like expanding Medicaid insurance and focusing state spending on public education, job training and small business startups.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp blames liberals for spreading the claim and defends the large voter roll purge in Georgia in 2016.

She explained she tracked down Ms Abrams' mobile phone number and called her to say she wanted to offer assistance in the final days of the campaign.

"I've heard nothing about it, and my reaction would be that this is a desperate attempt on the part of my opponent to distract people from the fact that two different federal judges found him derelict in his duties and have forced him to accept absentee ballots to be counted and those who are being held captive by the exact match system to be allowed to vote", Abrams told host Jake Tapper. "Are you voting for her?" I don't want to run. "I'm here today because of Stacey Abrams".

Mimicking Winfrey's famous talk show giveaways, the message promises voters who select Abrams that, "Everybody gets a vehicle!"

The competing scenes - from the candidates, to the audiences, to the headliner guests - underscore the choice Georgia voters face Tuesday in one of the nation's premier midterm matchups.

On Sunday morning, Abrams appeared on the political talkshows.

Numerous applications were flagged for failing to pass the state's "exact match" verification process, which requires that identification information on voter registration applications precisely match information already on file.

She encouraged women of all races - "sisters ... not just 'sistahs,"' she joked - to remember that they would have been "just a piece of property" with no ballot barely a century ago.

The 64-year-old media titan shared a video on her Instagram page holding a clipboard and knocking on the door of a voter named Denise.

"Another day, another major defeat for Brian Kemp's voter suppression efforts", Rebecca DeHart, executive director for the Democratic Party of Georgia, told The Hill.
