Khashoggi murder: Turkish leader blames Saudi state directly

Crown Prince meets American Evangelical delegation

Amnesty International activists will rename the street outside the Saudi Arabian embassy in central London as "Khashoggi Street" on Friday to mark a month since Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered in the Saudi consulate building in Turkey.

"The UK needs to completely re-appraise its relationship with Saudi Arabia, moving on from its failed softly-softly "engagement" approach to one where ministers raise human rights openly and frankly with their counterparts in Riyadh", she said.

The killing inside Istanbul consulate has severely tarnished Saudi Arabia's reputation.

Istanbul's chief prosecutor says Khashoggi was strangled immediately after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 2 and that his body was dismembered and removed from the consulate.

Writing in The Washington Post, Mr Erdogan made clear that he did not suspect King Salman of ordering the murder, but Turkish officials have dropped numerous hints that they believe his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to be responsible.

The Kingdom initially said Khashoggi walked out of the consulate unharmed but then said Saudi agents had accidentally killed him in a fistfight, and more recently announced that it had evidence that his killing was "premeditated".

Fidan, the Istanbul prosecutor, on Wednesday said that Khashoggi was strangled shortly after entering the consulate and that his body was dismembered afterward.

"There's only one lie left to be addressed and that's the involvement of the crown prince of Saudi Arabia himself", Connolly said.

"A way must be found to achieve both goals on the Khashoggi issue because the larger problem is Iran, and we have to make sure that Iran does not continue the malign activities". In their first version, they claimed Khashoggi was killed in a fight that was randomly triggered during a peaceful meeting, but their new story points to Turkish intel that shows the incident was planned by Saudi officials.

Aktay, who was friend of Khashoggi, said he believes that the body was cut into pieces so that it could be dissolved in chemicals.

"His body was disposed of after being dismembered following his death by suffocation - again, in line with the plans", the statement said, according to Turkey's state-run Anadalou Agency.

In an interview with ABC News on Thursday, Cengiz called on President Donald Trump to help bring Khashoggi's killers to justice.

Erdogan said there was more to Khashoggi's death than just action by "a group of security officials", he said.

The New York Times, quoting two people familiar with the matter, reported Friday that White House officials knew from an October 9 phone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that he considered Khashoggi a unsafe Islamist, and therefore knew the Saudi prince had a potential motive for the killing.

On Tuesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called for an immediate ceasefire in Yemen "including missile and UAV strikes from Houthi-controlled areas into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates" and "coalition airstrikes must cease in all populated areas in Yemen" in order to find a diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict and growing humanitarian crisis. But the Trump administration has taken a position that is devoid of moral foundation.
