Trump defends his embrace of nationalism

Sen. Ted Cruz takes part in a debate with Rep. Beto O'Rourke on Tuesday in San Antonio

Watch the President's comments above.

A number of people interviewed by The Wall Street Journal said while they would likely vote for Mr. Cruz in the midterm election next month, it was Mr. Trump they had gone to see. "I am honored that President Trump is here endorsing and supporting my campaign, and I look forward to campaigning beside him in 2020 for his reelection as President of the United States".

In just under a decade, Texas has grown by more than three million people, which many Texans say is a big reason why Democratic Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke is polling historically well against Republican incumbent Sen.

I had a almost front-row view of the action-something that felt especially surreal when Trump turned the crowd's attention to the scourge of the "Fake News Media". Since conceding to Trump and dropping out of the race, Cruz has aligned himself firmly behind the president as a reliable vote in the Senate.

Despite O'Rourke's national buzz as a progressive liberal over-performing in the conservative bastion of Texas, he still trails in most polls by almost ten points.

Speaking before Trump took the stage, Cruz made clear that their conflict was behind them and that the two were working together. Add Donald Trump as an interest to stay up to date on the latest Donald Trump news, video, and analysis from ABC News. He called O'Rourke "far too liberal for Texas".

The Trump campaign fell slightly short of that promise, initially booking an 8,000-seat arena in Houston's suburbs.

The pre-Trump speakers who mentioned Cruz did so only in the most general terms (i.e., vote for Cruz if you don't want Texas and/or America to become a awful socialist dystopia; vote for Cruz if you want "jobs, not mobs"). Cruz told CBN News he strongly opposes the policy. "I really do. I think Cruz is going to is going to be our guy for another six years".

Trump on Monday did not voice any second thoughts about labeling Cruz the son of a presidential killer, telling reporters, "I don't regret anything".

NO DEMOCRAT HAS WON A RACE STATEWIDE in Texas since 1994. However, the charismatic O'Rourke has been doing very well, particularly in terms of fundraising: he raised $38.1m for his campaign in the third quarter of 2018, triple Cruz's haul.

Trump is well aware of the power he has to energise people.

"We had our little difficulties", Mr. Trump said of his relationship with Mr. Cruz during Monday's rally.
