30 injured after floor collapses at Clemson apartment clubhouse

30 people hurt after floor collapse in Clemson

A video shows the moment dozens of people were injured during a party in Clemson, South Carolina, after the floor collapsed during the early morning hours of October 21.

Witnesses said the party at the event space of an apartment complex was just getting started when the floor collapsed. The beat was about to drop and then the whole floor collapsed. "Everyone was trying to climb out". I had blood on my sneakers.

Partygoers screamed, and those who didn't fall stood around the remaining edges of the floor and stared below in shock.

"Everybody was jumping, next thing you know, I'm jumping, I had my hands in the air and I can feel myself falling".

"You could hear the floor about to go through, kind of", he said, "but nobody thought it was going to happen".

Police said the clubhouse at The Woodlands, about three miles from Clemson, had been leased for a private party.

According to Chief Dixon, none of the injuries appear life-threatening.

Property manager Tal Slann told The Associated Press that the condominium complex was built in 2004-2005.

Clemson University President Jim Clements said on Twitter that he is monitoring the situation, and the school tweeted that student affairs representatives were sent to the hospitals where the injured were taken.

"We're just thankful that it was not any worse than it was", Dixon said told WYFF 4 News.

No deaths were reported, but police said some of the injured had broken bones.
