Khashoggi probe: Erdogan vows to uncover truth after Saudi admission

Saudi-friendly Kushner ‘keeping low profile’ as Trump admin shrugs off Khashoggi case report claims

Saudi state television said an investigation found that a fight broke out at the consulate between Khashoggi and people who met him at the consulate.

The public prosecutor said 18 people, all Saudi nationals, have been detained in connection to the probe.

The crown prince had no knowledge of the specific operation that resulted in Khashoggi's death, a Saudi official familiar with the investigation said. The monarch also relieved deputy intelligence chief General Ahmed al-Assiri of his duties and ordered the formation of a committee headed by Prince Mohammed to restructure the intelligence agency.

Three other intelligence officials who were also sacked have been named as Mohammad bin Saleh Al-Rumaih, Abdullah bin Khalifa Al-Shaya and Rashad bin Hamed Al-Muhamadi.

While it fired officials close to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia stopped short of implicating the heir-apparent of the world's largest oil exporter.

"First we were told Mr Khashoggi supposedly left the consulate and there was blanket denial of any Saudi involvement".

"To say that I am skeptical of the new Saudi narrative about Mr. Khashoggi is an understatement", Graham said.

Khashoggi, who was USA -based and wrote for The Washington Post, disappeared on October 2 after going into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. U.S. President Donald Trump, however, was an exception.

Trump said: "Saudi Arabia has been a great ally, but what happened is unacceptable", the president said.

Australia announced it is withdrawing from an investment summit in Saudi Arabia later this month - joining a growing boycott that includes the US, UK, Dutch and French finance ministers over the Khashoggi killing.

"The United States acknowledges the announcement from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that its investigation into the fate of Jamal Khashoggi is progressing and that it has taken action against the suspects it has identified thus far", Sanders said.

Their accounts could provide valuable insights into the movements of Saudi officials at the mission in the hours and days before and after Khashoggi vanished.

Turkish media has reported that Khashoggi was murdered and dismembered in the consulate by an assassination team that included a doctor of forensics who brought a bone saw with him when he arrived in Turkey that day. The suspects then attempted to "conceal an cover" what happened, the statement read. "I do." But he said before he decided what to do next, he wanted to talk to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Investigators were also still examining traffic records of every vehicle that went in and out of the Saudi Consulate on Oct.2, the day Khashoggi entered the consulate, the senior official said.

"I will remain a loyal servant to my country for all times", he wrote in a Twitter post on Saturday.

Khashoggi, a critic of the Saudi government, was declared missing last week after entering the country's consulate in Istanbul.

United Nations chief Antonio Gutterres said he was "deeply troubled" by the kingdom's disclosure on Saturday, adding there needed to be "full accountability for those responsible".
