Florida ticket wins $2 million as Powerball jackpot swells to $430 million

The new jackpot is a record-breaking US$1.6 billion

The largest Powerball jackpot - and biggest in USA lottery history - was $1.586 billion, which was shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee in January 2016.

Lottery officials raised the estimated prize Thursday, two days after no one picked the winning numbers. According to a release from Mega Millions, the last Mega Millions jackpot was won July 24, netting 11 co-workers a combined $543 million. Colorado Lottery spokeswoman Kelly Tabor referred to them as "jackpot chasers", as the Powerball jackpot swelled to the second largest in lottery history. That reflects the game's long odds, at one in 302.5 million.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.

"Since these changes, three of the six largest Mega Millions jackpots have been paid out", he says.

Lottery officials say the ticket was sold at the Minit Mart #664 on Leestown Road.

The sales cut-off for Mega Millions is at 10:44 p.m. EDT Friday, Powerball is 9:58 p.m. EDT Saturday and Hoosier Lotto is 10:39 p.m. EDT Saturday. The next Mega Millions drawing is Friday, October 19, at 11 p.m. ET.

Tickets are $2 at any place that sells N.C. lottery tickets.

Since Mega Millions modified the formula, players now pick five numbers from 1 to 70 and a Mega number of 1 to 25. You can pick your own numbers or the computer will do it for you. There are smaller prizes, from $2 up to $1 million, for matching some, but not all, numbers. Add that up, and you get $1.33 billion.

The jackpot goes to a victor who matches the five numbers and the Powerball number. They are getting too powerful.
