Eight killed in clashes in Gaza, West Bank

Ashraf Al-Qudra, a spokesperson for the health ministry in Gaza, told reporters that six Palestinians were killed and 112 others injured when Israeli soldiers opened fire on protesters on Friday in the eastern Gaza Strip.

At least 203 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza since protests began on 30 March.

Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col Jonathan Conricus tweeted that one group had "detonated a bomb on the Israel-Gaza border fence", allowing around 20 people to climb through the hole.

The escalation in violence between Palestinians and the Israeli army over the weekend came after rumors have been circulating recently about a multilateral agreement between Hamas and various elements in the region, with Qatar pledging this week $150 million, including for fuel supply, in humanitarian aid for Gaza. "The assailants were killed", it said, without saying how many people were shot.

The Israeli military has been criticised by Palestinians and worldwide human rights groups for its lethal response to the protests.

Four of the seven were killed in a single incident when they breached the Israeli side of the fence and approached an army post, the Israeli military said. An Israeli soldier was killed over the same period.

In the meantime, the IDF stated that a group of terrorists had attacked an Israeli outpost on the border.

Israel accuses the enclave's rulers Hamas of leading the protests and using them as a cover for attacks.

The fuel deliveries were aimed at easing months of protests along the separation fence east of Gaza, which has been under a crippling Israeli and Egyptian blockade for more than a decade.

On Friday, thousands of Gazans staged demonstrations on the border with Israel.

Gaza-based social media released a video showing a crowd of Palestinian demonstrators surrounding Islamic Hamas movement politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh to protect him from the tear gas.

The infiltration occurred on Friday as 14,000 Palestinians rioted in several places along the border fence as part of the ongoing "march of return".
