Astronauts arrive in Moscow after emergency landing in Kazakhstan

New Space Station Crew Launches Thursday Watch It Live

The two astronauts were to arrive at the International Space Station (ISS) six hours after the launch to join an American, a Russian and a German now aboard the station.

"I fully anticipate that we will fly again on a Soyuz rocket", he said, praising the "wonderful relationship" between Nasa and the Russian space agency Roscosmos.

NASA said it has been informed by Russian space officials that the crew has made an emergency landing at an unspecified location in Kazakhstan and is in good condition.

Speaking with reporters in Moscow before Thursday's launch, Bridenstine said that Russian-American cooperation in space remained strong, amid an investigation into the cause of the leak.

Still, Moscow has suspended all manned space launches until it confirms exactly what went wrong and why, and Rogozin has ordered a state commission to investigate.

"If you abandon the space station, then there's no one there to fix things as they fail - and they'll eventually have a serious problem", he said.

The incident began with a booster emergency light illuminating in the ship of NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Roscosmos astronaut Alexei Ovchinin. Both Roscosmos and NASA released statements saying everything was being handled and that there was no concern that future mission would be impacted in any way.

Russian Federation has reportedly launched a criminal investigation to determine whether safety regulations were violated during the rocket's construction.

Nick Hague and Aleksey Ovchinin before the aborted Soyuz launch on Thursday, Oct. 11.

Both are scheduled to return to the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Russia, today; Hague is expected to fly home to Houston next week.

Two astronauts from the US and Russian Federation landed safely in the steppes of Kazakhstan after their Soyuz rocket failed two minutes after launch.

We can talk all we want about the future of space travel in light of the failure, but at the end of the day, this is a human story about two people who came way too close to dying in space Thursday.

Mr Bridenstine also praised the two crew members and said, 'It's wonderful everyone came home safely. NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine was in attendance at the launch in order to discuss with Russian space agency Roscosmos a mysterious hole that had apparently been drilled through the side of the last Soyuz vehicle.

NASA is able to consider this event so lightly thanks to the very fortunate fact that there was no loss of life, as the escape system built into the launch hardware functioned exactly as it was meant to. The crew experienced about eight Gs as the capsule spun around the trajectory access landing about 275 miles off course.

The Russian Soyuz spacecraft is now the only vehicle for ferrying crews to the International Space Station following the retirement of the US space shuttle fleet.
