Deal close on four-player trade with Suns, Rockets

Report Rockets trade Anderson to Suns for Chriss Knight

The Houston Rockets have traded forward Ryan Anderson and guard De'Anthony Melton to the Phoenix Suns for forward Marquese Chriss and guard Brandon Knight, Houston GM Daryl Morey announced Friday.

The move comes as a bit of a surprise with Anderson carrying two years and more than $41 million remaining on his contract. His shooting ability simply couldn't compensate for his defensive struggles and inability to switch onto smaller players, which became a trademark of the Rockets' revamped defense last season.

Meanwhile, Brandon Knight is expected to serve as the Rockets' primary backup point guard next season.

With a fresh new start in Houston, Chriss could possibly unlock his potential.

Phoenix has until July 10, 2019, to decide on picking up Anderson's $21.3 million deal or waiving him for $15.6 million. The 30-year-old barely got off the bench in the playoffs, scoring just 1.7 points per game. Knight averaged 11 points and 2.4 assists along with 2.2 rebounds per game during the 2016-17 season and sat out all of previous year with a torn ACL in his left knee. The 21st overall pick in the 2008 draft, he has played for four different teams, averaging 12.8 points and 5.4 rebounds a game.

Knight has missed about a season and a half of basketball, so the Rockets took a big risk to acquire a player that hasn't played an NBA game in so long.

Knight has two years left on his contract and is slated to make $14.6 million this season.

Knight, also a No. 8 overall pick, but in the 2001 draft, will be joining his fourth team. He averaged 9.3 points and knocked down 38.6 percent of his 3-pointers with the Rockets in 2017-18.

For his career, Knight has averaged 15.2 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 382 games. Phoenix apparently has no plans to flip Anderson elsewhere, with ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reporting that they plan on starting him at power forward.

Right now the Suns have Shaquille Harrison and rookie Elie Okobo at the point.
