Walker fires Man City to victory over Newcastle

Newcastle-Chelsea

Last season's PFA Young Player if the Year has failed to impress Guardiola in training of late and the City manager made a decision to leave Sane out of his squad all together on Saturday.

According to The Sun, Guardiola omitted Sane due to some unimpressive displays in training, combined with his disappointing display from the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

The City boss denied Sane's attitude was the reason for his omission, despite speculation to the contrary, but went on to outline the value of Sterling's all-round game to his team.

"Last game Phil Foden was not in the squad", Guardiola told his post-match press conference.

"Newcastle is one of the biggest clubs in England with a fantastically loyal fanbase, and I know they will make life hard for us this evening".

The Magpies totalled just 19% possession during the game and have been heavily criticised by pundits for the negative football played.

Asked directly if he was happy with Sane's commitment, the Catalan replied, "Yes", before insisting he had no serious concerns about the winger's performance at Molineux.

But the victory only took them to third position on the Premier League standings with 10 points, and they are two points behind Chelsea and Liverpool. He was not precise but he tried. They convince me, I am satisfied from the moment they run.

The England right back received the ball from Sergio Aguero, took a touch, and fired an angled shot into the bottom corner in the 52nd minute for his first goal in nearly three years.

Sane spent the whole of pre-season with Man City, having been left out of Germany's World Cup squad.
