Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah, Luka Modric nominated for UEFA award

Luka Modric Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah

The victor of the award will be announced on August 30th during the draw for the Champions League group stages in Monaco.

Modric, also part of Madrid's Champions League winning team, finished runner-up with Croatia at the World Cup, winning the best player award at the tournament in Russian Federation.

Juventus and Portugal worldwide Cristiano Ronaldo has made the final three man shortlist of players that will fight for the 2017/18 UEFA player of the year award.

Salah is up against Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo, who were part of the Real Madrid team that beat Liverpool in Kiev, for the prize.

Mohamed Salah is now the first African player and first Premier League player to make the top three of the award since it was first handed out in 2010-11.

The 31 year old scored 45 times in 54 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona last season, Messi's stats the most impressive of any player in Europe when it comes to goalscoring and assists. Ronaldo was also instrumental in the Champions League, finding the back of the net 15 times in 13 appearances as Los Blancos went on to lift a third consecutive title.

Modrić was even awarded with the Golden Ball in recognition for his performances at the World Cup, a trophy last has previously been one by the likes of Lionel Messi, Ronaldo Nazário and the late Johan Cruyff.

Croatia star, Modric played in the 2018 World Cup having defeated by France. He has also won the award on three occasions compared to Messi's two.

The 26-year-old matched Cristiano Ronaldo's 44 goal haul across all competitions, one of which came during qualifying for the Champions League, and was the catalyst for the Reds as they reached the final in Kyiv. Ronaldo's assist record was far worst though, with just fife in La Liga and three in the Champions League, although the Portuguese forward would often lead the attack for Madrid.
