Google Announces Android 9 Pie, Available Now For Pixel Devices

Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL Launch Reportedly Set for October 4

The latest revelation comes days after the Pixel 3 XL surfaced on a Geekbench listing that confirmed the presence of a Snapdragon 845 SoC and Android P out-of-the-box. If you are even slightly uncomfortable performing the steps in the links above, it's best just to wait for the update to hit your phone.

Once you do this, you'll be taken to the new UI for viewing your recent apps.

Those that have the Essential Phone and have yet to see the update notification pop up can always head into the settings menu, enter the system settings, and tap "update".

Android Pie, which was simply known as P, includes a whole host of new AI-powered features that are created to make your phone smarter, and simplify the experience of using it.

Considering that both the original Pixel and the Pixel 2 were released on this date in 2017 and 2016 respectively, you may be forgiven for thinking there wasn't a lot of detective work that went into this.

Android 9 will start rolling out to Pixel phones first.

Highly anticipated: A marketing post allegedly made by Google on Famebit shows that the Pixel 3 will be launching on October 4.

So how do we know that it will be announced on the 4th of October?

"We're also working with a number of other partners to launch or upgrade devices to Android 9 this year".

Personalised settings include the new Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness modes.

But for most users, the most immediately obvious change will be the one that will also take the most getting used to: the new navigation.

Google today released Android 9.0 Pie to Pixel phones. And that, according to Google, will help Android 9 Pie learn and get smarter in future. You'll be presented with a carousel view of every app. The digital wellness features are all still in beta, and won't be included when you get the update.

With Digital Wellbeing you get a Dashboard that lets you quickly glance at how much time you're spending on your device and which apps you're using the most. You won't need an unlocked bootloader, but you will need a computer with ADB running.
