Xiaomi Mi A2 and A2 Lite Launched

Xiaomi Mi A2 listed on two popular online retail stores for pre-orders ahead of launch

The was also the company's first smartphone in the Mi A series. The Android One smartphones are successors to the Mi A1 that launched past year to great reviews. The company's Mi India Twitter handle has confirmed the launch date soon after Xiaomi announced the Mi A2 (and the Mi A2 Lite) for the global market in Spain.

The device is 8.75mm thick and this gives room to the hefty 4,000 mAh battery. One of those was the Mi A1, which won accolades for a slick design, capable hardware, and pure Google software. They also support Google's Android One platform, which offers a stock Android 8.1 Oreo OS, monthly security updates, and the promise of faster feature updates thanks to Project Treble.

Meanwhile, the Mi A2 Lite has a 5.84-inch FHD+ display, a Snapdragon 645 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of built-in storage. Whereas, the Mi A1 had the Snapdragon 625 with the Adreno 506 GPU. And speaking of photos, you won't care one bit that the dual camera setup on the back takes pretty decent outdoor shots and has a portrait mode for those neat portraits with out-of-focus backgrounds. The same 20 MP IMX376 sensor and pixel binning is used in the front facing camera as well.

The Mi A2 sports an aluminum body and feels instantly familiar to users of the Mi A1 including the placement of the fingerprint sensor and dual rear cameras.

Unfortunately, the new Mi A1 does not include any headphone jack and includes a USB type C adapter. For the 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant, you will need to pay €179 and the 4GB RAM and 64GB variant costs €229. This cheaper variant uses an older Snapdragon 625, but it has a very trendy 5.8-inch notched display. Entry-level, because, the price of the Mi A2 could be under the Rs. 15,000 price bracket.

Xiaomi is serious about expanding its reach beyond China and hosting a launch event in Madrid is certainly one way to go about it.

"It gets a 5.99" Full HD+ display in an 18:9 aspect ratio and it's protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

The pricing reflects that as well, with the decked-out version of the Mi A2 running up to $410. Both the Xiaomi Mi A2 and A2 Lite have an IPS LCD panel.

The Mi A2 is successor to the Mi A1 from previous year, while the Mi A2 Lite is a toned down version of the Mi A2. The third model will have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for 349 euros (~$408).

Xiaomi Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite will be made available in a total of 40 countries.

The details are still unfolding, but we're expecting a mid-range Android handset, and Xiaomi's teasing suggests it's going to have a dual camera and come in blue and pink colours.
