Trump accepts intel on Russian Federation poll meddling

MFA calls Butina's detention by US

Republican and Democrat politicians in the U.S., as well as intelligence officials, on Monday denounced Trump's failure to challenge his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin over interference in the elections, calling his responses at a joint news conference in Finland as "shameful" and "disgraceful". At a press conference with Putin on Monday, Mr. Trump said "I have confidence in both parties" when asked whether he believes the intelligence community's assessment of Russian meddling or Putin's denial.

"The sentence should have been, 'I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be Russia.' Sort of a double negative, " Trump said.

The protests came as a direct response to Trump's actions during a joint press conference with Putin in Finland.

He declined to say whether he believed the USA intelligence community's conclusion that Russian Federation interfered over Putin's denials.

In the Finnish capital, Trump had refused to say he believed USA intelligence agencies over Russia's denials of meddling and delivered no condemnation of Moscow's interference.

Trump took to Twitter early Wednesday to defend his Putin meeting, promising "big results" from better relations with Russian Federation and hitting back at "haters".

At the very moment he delivered this stunning about-face, saying he had "full faith in United States intelligence agencies", the lights briefly went out at the White House, plunging the President into darkness.

"It could be other people also - there's a lot of people out there", he said. "Our Republican colleagues can not just go 'Tsk, tsk, tsk.' They must act".

Meanwhile, Republican Sen. Marco Rubio said, "it's what I wish he would have said initially, and I'm glad he said it now". Bombarded with questions, the presidents laid out where US-Russia relations were heading at the press conference.

'It should have been obvious, I thought it would have been obvious, but I would like to clarify just in case it wasn't.

"I will say this: I don't see any reason why it would be". It's called Trump Derangement Syndrome!

Trump and Kim met last month in a historic summit last month.

Some lawmakers said they would seek remedies against Russian Federation in Congress.

The drama continued as Trump headed to his next stop, the U.K. His first official visit was overshadowed by fallout from the rhetorical grenade he'd lobbed at British Prime Minister Theresa May before arriving.

"We need to be working feverishly here to harden our defenses", Graham said after delivering an impassioned floor speech late Tuesday.

Standing on stage with the man accused of complicity in an attack on the very bedrock of American democracy, Trump said his intelligence people "think it's Russian Federation".

It was easily Trump's worst moment as president, even if it wasn't - as some over the top Democratic critics said, treasonable.
