Top Senate Democrat says Trump shouldn't meet with Putin again

Trump extends invitation to Putin,Trump-Putin,Washington

Putin unveiled the proposal in a joint press conference with Trump on Monday following their summit meeting in Helsinki, Finland.

Coats, whose office briefs Trump nearly daily on the most classified information on security threats to the United States, made clear that he did not agree with the president's decision to meet with Putin one-on-one, with only translators by their sides.

Republicans and Democrats both accused him of siding with an adversary rather than his own country after he shied away from criticizing the Russian leader for what USA intelligence agencies say were Moscow's efforts to undermine the 2016 election.

In an emoji-filled tweet, Hayden responded to a tweet from Washington Post columnist Max Boot who said that Trump's claiming he merely misspoke during his refusal to condemn Russian Federation for its alleged 2016 election interference was because the president is "deathly afraid of being laughed at".

The announcement appeared to come as a surprise to US Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, who was told about it during a live interview at the Aspen Security Forum in the state of Colorado.

"Well, since there's now not an election today, not specifically, but we certainly believe that we are taking steps to make sure they can't do it again", Sanders said.

Having Donald Trump in the White House is looking increasingly like a liability for the Kremlin, rather than an asset.

The 12 Russians is a reference to those indicted last week by Mueller for their role in interfering in the 2016 USA election. In the middle of the interview, Mitchell broke the news that the White House had invited Putin for a meeting in the United States.

No Russian leader has visited the White House in almost a decade.

In another interview to Hugh Hewitt Show, he refused to divulge details about the summit meeting that Trump had with Putin in Helsinki on Monday. "In the United States, in Russian Federation, or anywhere else", he said in a statement.

Trump initially called it an "incredible offer", but McFaul and others expressed outrage and the White House - just minutes before the Senate vote - made clear a deal with Putin was not in the cards.

Trump on Tuesday said he misspoke during the news conference.

Russian Federation was also seeking to interview Michael McFaul, another Putin critic who was USA ambassador to Moscow under President Obama.

Earlier in the administration, Coats' voice was drowned out by the more outspoken Mike Pompeo, who was Central Intelligence Agency director before Trump tapped him as secretary of state.

Putin doesn't blame Trump for that.

"But look at the sanctions I have put on", Trump said to Kernen.

"OK. That's going to be special", he said, laughing.

"The reason that the Russians are probably leaking this information is because they don't want a nuclear war either", Stone said on July 27, 2016.

Coats said US intelligence on North Korea was significantly better than it used to be, but that the USA should not assume it will happen and that "trust and verify" should be America's mantra. "We believe that we held a referendum in strict compliance with worldwide law", he said.
