Carmelo Anthony trade grades: Thunder win big; Hawks, 76ers accomplish their goals

Carmelo Anthony

OKC will save less money by trading Anthony rather than stretching him, but in doing so the Thunder will also address a major need that was clear to any who've watched the team the last couple of years - an offense that falls apart whenever Westbrook is on the bench.

Anthony has told people for more than a week that he expects to wind up with the Rockets, according to a league source.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to trade Carmelo Anthony and a protected 2022 first round pick to the Atlanta Hawks for Dennis Schroder.

If a deal works out with the Rockets, Anthony would join a club that was within one win over Golden State of reaching the NBA Finals, a club sparked by NBA scoring champion and 2018 NBA MVP James Harden and backcourt partner Chris Paul.

"The Heat are limited in a bid for Anthony of the $2.3 million veteran minimum for a player of his tenure or the $5.3 million mid-level exception, a figure the Heat may have to retain for a potential return by guard Dwyane Wade".

Anthony, 34, played just one season for the Thunder after spending six-plus years in NY.

According to ESPN's Royce Young, the 2022 first-rounder being sent to Atlanta will be lottery-protected (1-14) before conveying as two first round picks the following year.

Muscala is likely to be moved to a third team. In 121 National Basketball Association games, Luwawu-Cabarrot has averaged 6.1 points in 16.5 minutes per game. "In addition, Oklahoma City will save an additional $11M in salary savings with the Dennis Schroder $15.5M contract and the $1.5M cap hit of Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot". The 6-foot-11 forward/center averaged 7.6 points and 4.3 rebounds in 20.0 minutes and shot 37.1 percent from 3-point last season.

Luwawu-Cabarrot, 23, was selected 24 overall by the Sixers back in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Schroder has played five seasons in the National Basketball Association, all with the Hawks, and averaged a career high 19.4 points a game last season.
