Amazon seeking entrepreneurs willing to start their own delivery service networks

Amazon is trying to expand its network of package-delivery couriers by offering several incentives, including discounts on vehicles and fuel, to new business owners who want Prime delivery jobs. Get together $10,000 in startup funding, apply through Amazon and the company will help you to start your own business. According to the company, successful delivery partners can make up to $300,000 in annual profit.

"Customer demand is higher than ever and we have a need to build more capacity", Amazon's senior VP of worldwide operations said in a statement.

"We are going to offer a lot of support to these new businesses", Madan said, "so people who may not have logistics experience or experience building their own small business will have access to Amazon's technology".

The delivery wars are heating up, and this time Amazon is recruiting small businesses to assist in battle.

Amazon has beefed up its delivery network in other ways: It has a fleet of cargo planes it calls "Prime Air", announced a year ago that it was building an air cargo hub in Kentucky and pays people as much as $25 an hour to deliver packages with their cars through Amazon Flex. However, CNBC reported that Amazon's new program may be welcomed by the traditional delivery giants given the low-margin nature of last mile deliveries.

UPS and FedEx leaders have long scoffed at the idea that Amazon could turn from a customer to a competitor, and most analysts have agreed - and still do so. President Donald Trump accused Amazon of giving the Postal Service a raw deal earlier this year, CNN pointed out.

"Amazon's new delivery program will afford the company more "last mile" capability and control, and as a result, is credit positive".

Amazon has been constantly fine-tuning its delivery options in an attempt to stay ahead of e-commerce rivals, including Amazon Key in-home, and the recent Key In-Car delivery services that take convenience to a new level.

A box for an Amazon prime customer moves through the new Amazon Fulfillment Center in Sacramento, Calif., Feb. 9, 2018.

Amazon is looking for entrepreneurs to buy in on the local level and run a fleet of up to 40 delivery vehicles.

Olaoluwa Abimbola, who was part of Amazon's test of the program, said that the amount of packages Amazon needs delivered keeps his business busy. USPS said in its annual report previous year that its revenue growth "is driven entirely by increases in shipping and packages".

Amazon will offer contractors the opportunity to lease company vans or to use their own approved delivery vehicles.
