Fortnite's 50v50 mode is back, Playground is hopefully coming soon

Fortnite players meeting at ‘the rocket’ for tomorrow’s first real time mystery event

The company plans to have an update today on the feature, when and if it will return, but now we're left in the dark. This marks the first time Epic Games will be using a one-time only live event. In its most recent Reddit update, Epic said, "We're continuing testing on our matchmaking improvements and are still aiming to open the Playground LTM as soon as we're confident in our improvements".

Representatives from the company described the unexpected mishap on Twitter and Reddit Thursday, saying, "So many of you rushed in to create and play that our matchmaking service fell over".

Earlier this week, Epic Games deployed their v4.5 update for the wildly popular battle royale title Fortnite.

Since Playground was been removed, players have been clamouring for the return of the experimental game mode, asking Epic when the sandbox take on Fortnite is likely to return.

It remains offline now, with Epic promising an update today.

We've heard your feedback regarding the Final Fight LTM and we agree that the mode isn't quite in a state where we want it to be.

"We know you're eager to get out there but due to this, we'll be unable to release this game mode tonight". That's an update on the status of the mode, not an actual update to the game. "More details available tomorrow".

However, it seems unlikely Playgrounds will return today, as Week 9 Challenges start, giving players plenty of tasks to keep them occupied.

Fortnite players have scorned the vast distance between the second and third circles, which made Final Fight more of a race than a battle for players unlucky enough to be on the other side of the map. Epic claims the matchmaking problems are over, although we're still experiencing issues on PS4 and Xbox One.
