News Priest Slaps Crying Baby During Baptism in Horrifying Video

Short-Tempered Priest Slaps Toddler

This is the freaky moment a baby's relatives are forced to wrestle their child away from a French priest who slapped it during its baptism. The clergyman then tells the child to: "calm down, calm down, you must calm down".

The 43-second clip, which was recorded during a baptism in France and originally shared on Reddit, shows a priest clutching onto the face of a boy as he sits in a woman's arms and wails.

The baby can be seen crying as the family hands him over to the priest.

Newsweek reported that the priest says, in French, that the child is having a "tantrum" and that water must be poured on his head so he could become a "little Christian".

It's unclear whether the priest has been charged or if further action was taken by the child's parents.

In the disturbing video, the priest loses his patience with the child and holds his face close to him next to a baptismal font.

At a point however, the priest, visibly annoyed, had had enough, and held the baby's face in his hands, looked it in the eyes and slaps it hard on the cheek with his left hand.

Eventually, the man standing behind her snatches the baby away from the priest.

"I don't care if you're a man of the church I'm knocking you if you slap my son", wrote one person.

Twitter users have been taking to the social media platform in droves to weigh in on the horrifying moment, with many tweeting that they would have knocked the priest out. Added another: "A priest slaps my baby and I'm putting him on the cross".
