Trump voices reservations about doing a Mueller interview

Trump I did a great service by firing Comey

On Thursday, the Justice Department's inspector general released a lengthy report that rebuked former FBI Director James Comey for deviating from departmental procedures during his probe into Clinton's use of a private server for emails.

Mr. Trump seized on the findings of the Justice Department Inspector General, claiming the report provides evidence of deep bias against him at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and "exonerates" him from allegations of collusion with Moscow and obstruction of justice.

It's just one of several examples of Trump way overplaying his hand on the Justice Department watchdog report released Thursday on how the FBI mishandled the Hillary Clinton email investigation. "But in a new, inflammatory text revealed in the report, Page wrote Strzok in August 2016: "(Trump's) not ever going to become president, right? "We'll stop it", he said in the email.

Trump's lawyers have been in negotiations with Mueller's team since the end of previous year over terms of an interview. Both Strzok and Page worked on the Clinton probe.

Since Horowitz's report criticizes Comey, Trump's claim is superficially plausible. "Right?!" Page texted Strzok. Investigators still had a lot to say, however. Do you believe Comey acted without bias? At least among Trump's hardline supporters, the response would inevitably refer back to Clinton and the email controversy.

While the report was embarrassing for the FBI, it appeared to lack the kind of bombshell revelation that would significantly boost an effort by Trump and his allies to paint the FBI as corrupt and discredit the Russian Federation investigation.

Donald Trump's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, said there's a "good chance" the president will decide next week whether to answer questions from Special Counsel Robert Mueller, a crucial choice that could shape the course of his presidency.

Mueller is looking into the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election and any potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow, among other matters that may arise from the investigation.

Meanwhile, two Republican-led House committees say their own months-long probe into the now-closed FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton's emails has so far shown "questionable decision-making" by the agency.

"We found no evidence that the conclusions by the prosecutors were affected by bias or other improper considerations", the report said.
