‘Confused’ Trump can’t decide whether he hates immigration bill

Top WH legislative aide Marc Short to exit this summer

Trump has tweeted the claim before, and he made the same assertion in front of a White House press gaggle earlier this week.

Trump's public acknowledgment that he was willing to let the policy continue as he pursued his political goals came as the president once again blamed Democrats for a policy enacted and touted by his own administration. Mrs. Pelosi said there may be "uprisings" over children who are separated at the US southern border when asylum seekers decide not to arrive at a proper checkpoint. A 2008 anti-trafficking statute - signed into law by a Republican president, George W. Bush - also requires that certain unaccompanied alien minors be transferred out of immigration detention in 72 hours.

Trump indicated his opposition to the bill during an impromptu appearance on "Fox & Friends", which was being aired on the White House lawn.

"This bill will be hard to pass with Republican votes only unless President Trump says that he is considering supporting it".

Only the compromise bill would open a door to citizenship for "Dreamers", the young immigrants who were brought to the United States illegally as children, and reduce the separation of children from their parents when families are detained crossing the border - a practice that has drawn bipartisan condemnation in recent days.

"Until we know exactly where he's (Trump) at and his concerns have been satisfied, I think things will be on hold", said veteran Republican Representative Tom Cole.

The comment prompted widespread confusion among lawmakers, not least because House Speaker Paul Ryan told his colleagues earlier this week that Trump supported the middle-ground package and White House aide Stephen Miller, an immigration hardliner who has been accused of trying to sabotage immigration deals in the past, told conservative lawmakers at a closed-door meeting that Trump backed that plan.

House Republicans introduced legislation Friday that lined up with Trump's demands on immigration policy and sought to end the policy of separating children from their parents.

Democrats are expected to solidly oppose both GOP bills, giving Republicans little leeway for losing support.

Now, with November's congressional elections nearing, Republicans are scrambling to minimize a potential backlash among Hispanic voters.

"MS-13 gang members are truly, and you've heard me say it, animals." he said on Saturday.

Doocy then noted that the House is set to consider two immigration bills next week-a conservative measure from Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte (R., Va.) and a more moderate, compromise proposal that GOP leaders struck with centrist Republicans. "And I don't see how you do that without having a suite for every self-described family unit".

Republican leaders this week announced a plan to vote on two immigration bills next week.

Pelosi will join members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus in a Monday visit to the Southern California border, where she plans to talk to parents who have been separated from their children.

According to ABC News, more than two dozen of the largest religious groups in the USA have asked the Trump administration to revoke the zero-tolerance policy and stop separating families.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) wondered Thursday what it would take for Americans to start an "uprising" against the Trump administration because of immigration conditions along the U.S. -Mexico border. Now the White House is saying that, yes, he will. "They want them to be left alone", he said. While adults are often sent to prison to await court dates, their children are taken from them and surrendered to shelters run by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Rep. Brian Higgins, New York Democrat, said he will not support Ms. Pelosi for another term.

The interviewer had specifically asked whether Trump supported a conservative bill penned by Rep.
