Leroy Sane left out of Germany World Cup squad

Joachim Low explains shock decision to AXE Leroy Sane from Germany World Cup squad

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has been surprisingly omitted from Germany's final 23-man World Cup squad.

The 22-year-old winger, who won the Premier League title with Manchester City and was voted young player of the year by the Professional Footballers' Association, didn't make the cut when Joachim Loew reduced his squad to 23 players.

The main point of contention was that Leroy Sane - a man who has been in eye-wateringly good form for Manchester City over the past nine months - was omitted from the squad heading to Russian Federation.

His worldwide form, however, is much poorer - he's only provided one assist and is yet to score following 12 appearances with the national side.

Sane will be able to get some well-earned rest ahead of the new season with the Citizens. Leroy has a huge talent. Even so, Sane has started the -majority of Germany's recent friendlies, but is not thought to have impressed.

It remains to be seen how Leroy Sane reacts to the omission from Low's Germany squad, though smart money would say he'll be a likely starter in 2020, when the Euro's takes place across multiple European cities across the continent.

Manuel Neuer is in as one of three goalkeepers, and will lead Germany's defence of their World Cup crown.

And his stats were far better than players like Mesut Ozil, Marco Reus, Julian Draxler and Brandts - who scored 12 goals and made seven for Leverkusen who finished fifth in the Bundesliga. For instance, his final 23 contains only two out-and-out strikers: Mario Gomez and Timo Werner. He was also in Germany's Confederations Cup winning squad last summer. "Vincent is a true leader - his leadership is essential for us", he said.
