Players react to Andres Iniesta leaving Barcelona

Many believe Iniesta should have won it in 2010 after helping Spain to victory at the World Cup

"This press conference is to make public the decision that this season is my last season here", said Iniesta, via Marca.

"That is the good thing about this national team, that we have given joyful days to those anonymous heroes who don't often get the chance to smile". The amount of tackles he won, the way he played, the example for the way to be a professional on and off the pitch.

"It really was a pleasure and wonderful for a short period as his team-mate and his manager".

"It's a decision I have given a lot of time and thought to on a personal level and with the family", he began, as he fought the tears. That will be his ninth Spanish league title in a list of trophies that includes the 2010 World Cup, two European Championships either side of that and four Uefa Champions League crowns.

The expectation is he will then announce his retirement from global football, with a glittering trophy cabinet that already boasts the World Cup in 2010 and the European Championships titles from 2008 and 2012. His was also the goal that made Spain the champion of the planet for the first and only time.

After 22 years of dedicated service to the club, Andres Iniesta has confirmed that he will leave the Catalan giants at the end of this season.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu described the midfielder as the club's most important player of the last decade in an interview with Spanish radio. I wouldn't forgive myself for putting myself and the club in an uncomfortable situation.

The only trophy that escaped Iniesta's grasp was the Ballon d'Or award, given to the best player in the world each season.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has thanked departing Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta for helping him "to understand the game better".

"I just say thank you because he helped me".

How will Barca replace him? .

Spain coach, Julen Lopetegui, said Iniesta was still one of the best players around and added that not many footballers receive the adoration the Barca veteran does.

He is expected to move to Chinese Super League side Chongqing Dangdai Lifan. "Today is not a farewell, it's a see you soon".

'Andrés, you knew it in Barcelona and you will always know it wherever you go, here you always have your card, ' the message in the tweet reads. Not only because he is a great player but because he is an excellent human being. He also won the Euro twice the World Cup with Spain.
