NFL Draft Updates: DT Derrick Nnadi goes in 3rd round to Chiefs

After no first round picks, Chiefs poised to make a splash at NFL Draft on second day

The Chiefs have the 24th pick in the round, along with a sixth-round pick and two choices in the seventh round.

Defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi, who finished fourth on the team with 53 tackles in 2017, was selected early in the third Friday night by the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs did not have a first-round pick after trading it away last season to select quarterback Patrick Mahomes II.

Unless new general manager Brett Veach decides to trade some of them away. Twelve of those came in his final game as Ole Miss won the Egg Bowl.

Each year, it seems like each draft tries to one-up each other in surprising picks and trades.

Speaks started twice at defensive tackle as a freshman, then became a regular for the Rebels as a sophomore. Nnadi had six sacks a year ago and another 10.5 tackles for a loss.

The Chiefs defensive line just got more versatile with the selection of Speaks. Cornerback remains a priority, but wide receiver, tight end and offensive line could also be in the mix.
