Zlatan Ibrahimovic Playing In The World Cup? Sweden Coach Says No

When two legends meet: Watch Zlatan Ibrahimovic introduce Brazilian icon Ronaldo to LA Galaxy squad

After some back and forth speculation, Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss the 2018 World Cup with Sweden after all.

Swedish national coach Lars Richt told the Swedish FA's website: "I spoke to Zlatan on Tuesday". "Zlatan has previously said no to playing for the national team - and he hasn't changed his mind".

The LA Galaxy striker, who quit the Swedish national team after Euro 2016, had hinted recently that he could be prepared to return for the upcoming tournament in Russian Federation, but those hopes now appear to be dashed.

Despite being 36 years old, Ibrahimovic is still far and away Sweden's best player and most important guy in attack.

The Scandinavians get their World Cup campaign underway on the 18 of June against South Korea before facing holders Germany on the 23 of June.

"[Ibrahimovic] has not called me, but he's definitely not included in the plans for the World Cup".

Ibrahimovic has been in fine form since retiring from the national team. The striker, who recently joined the LA Galaxy, has hinted that he could make a return to the national team for the World Cup in Russian Federation. He scored 28 goals for Manchester United during the 2016-17 season helping them to three trophies before he suffered a severe knee injury in April 2017.

"It doesn't change anything for me", he said last month.

Earlier, the 36-yer-old who is plying his trade for the LA Galaxy in the MLS had claimed in his ever-animated manner that there can not be any World Cup without Zlatan.
