The plume is heaviest in the San Luis Valley in the southern part of the state, bottom, trailing off more than 300 miles (480 kilometers) to the northeast to the Nebraska border.

Days after a fire ravaged the small town of Martha, cleanup continues, along with efforts to help victims recover.

Wildfires have killed two people in western Oklahoma and could spread and ignite more fires in the process.

In Oklahoma, two people have died in the fires and nine others have been taken to hospitals for smoke inhalation or heat-related injuries, emergency management officials reported.

"We are surviving, exhausted of the fire, stressing".

By early afternoon Tuesday, temperatures that were projected to reach the mid-90s had reached 88 degreeswith humidity at 6 percent.

The service relaxed that fire risk warning to critical for much of the region Wednesday.
