Beyonce's debut Coachella performance pays tribute to Afro, Caribbean legends

Beyonce is set to perform at Coachella on Saturday

In addition to a mind-boggling 26-song set list that spanned her entire career, which was accompanied by dizzying dance moves, sparkly Balmain costumes, and insane guest appearances, the "Lemonade" singer made history as the first black woman to headline the music festival.

Bey had been hyping up her performance all week, writing on Facebook, "I am so excited to see the BeyHive tonight at Coachella". At one point during the concert, she commented on why her show was so special. He added, "She makes one want to just forget everything they knew about live performance, sit down, and take notes.... and weep openly".

She did it! Beyonce invited Destiny's Child to join her for her wild Coachella performance!

She stormed through almost every song she has ever released - including the world's quickest duet with husband Jay-Z - and even took the time to get a manicure halfway through the set.

The singer - whose set marked the first time a black woman has headlined the California festival - was a trending topic nearly immediately, sparking hundreds of thousands of tweets declaring the festival #Beychella.

This comes a year after Beyoncé had to postpone her 2017 headlining Coachella slot due to her pregnancy with twins. She had a full marching band backing her up.

If you weren't there, or couldn't get to a livestream, Twitter had you covered.

Accustomed to packing arenas, the group managed to pull in a smaller but respectable crowd of hundreds despite the misfortune of playing at the same time as Beyonce. And in the end, they hugged it out like two very famous sisters do.

X Japan also brought two guest guitarists - Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit and Richard Fortus of latter-day Guns N' Roses - a sign of the deep esteem the band enjoys in the rock world, if not yet the United States general public.
