Bayern Munich Appoint Kovac As Manager

FC Bayern München have confirmed that Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Niko Kovac will take charge of the Bundesliga champions next season on a three-year deal.

"We have spoken with Arjen and Franck over the last few days and have given them a bid for new, one-year contracts".

Bayern Munich have announced that current Frankfurt manager Niko Kovac will takeover at the Allianz Arena from July 1. One phone call was enough to turn his plans upside down: "I have spent two wonderful years here [in Frankfurt], but very few people get the chance to be the coach at Bayern". His brother Robert Kovač (44) will join Niko Kovač, who is now Eintracht Frankfurt head coach, as assistant.

"The procedure, I think, is extremely questionable, as I said before".

The new manager, born in Berlin to Croatian parents, is under contract to Frankfurt until 2019 and reports in the German media have suggested his release clause is €2.2m (£1.9m).

Bayern will play Real Madrid in Champion League semifinal.

But Kovac places huge value on the personal relationship with his players, a quality he attributes to his former coaches Ottmar Hitzfeld, Giovanni Trapattoni and Christoph Daum ("Three coaches who also possessed great human qualities in addition to their professional expertise") but also to his strong Christian faith.

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes is not picky about who his side will face next.

He then took over Croatia in 2013 for two years before signing with relegation-threatened Eintracht Frankfurt in 2016 and turning them into Champions League contenders this season.

"It was a surprise for us in this phase", Bobic said.

Bayern grew more and more frustrated as the game went on, Robben spurning a number of opportunities in the second half.

Liverpool, defending champions Real Madrid and Roma, who knocked out Barcelona, are also in Friday's draw for the semi-finals, but Heynckes has no preference.

Brought in at the start of the season on loan from Real Madrid, James Rodriguez has looked at home at Bayern Munich, scoring six goals and assisting 12 in 31 appearances across all competitions so far.

"I have already said that Niko Kovac works with a lot of different types of players and nationalities at Frankfurt", Heynckes told reporters.
