Ferrell's representative told TMZ the actor was not seriously hurt and was released from the hospital Friday morning.

American actor Will Ferrell has been hospitalised following a two-car accident in California which saw his SUV spin out of control and flip over. According to the website, the SUV he was riding in was sideswiped by another auto which caused Ferrell's vehicle to "spin and flip over".

Along with two other people, Will was riding in an SUV driven by a chauffeur and was traveling back from a amusing or Die event called Glam Up The Midterms, where he had appeared in character as Ron Burgundy from Anchorman. According to a report from the California Highway Patrol, a 2007 Toyota struck the right rear of the limousine SUV after veering into its lane on Interstate 5, causing it to lose control, hit the centre divider and overturn.

At the time of the crash, Ferrell was returning to Los Angeles from an event sponsored by "Funny or Die" in which he appeared in character as Ron Burgundy, his '70s TV journalist parody from the movie "Anchorman". "Will's longtime driver, Mark Thompson, and his other colleague Carolina Barlow, remain hospitalized in stable condition", read a statement from United Talent Agency on Ferrell's behalf.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured. Ferrell reportedly sustained minor injuries, although it's not clear exactly what.

Witnesses reportedly said another woman in the actor's vehicle was bleeding profusely at the scene.

The Daily Mail reports the woman was not wearing a seatbelt.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the four people in his SUV all suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital.
