Colts' chances for Saquon Barkley improve after Browns sign Carlos Hyde

San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde against the Los Angeles Rams during the first half of an NFL football game Sunday Dec. 31 2017 in Los Angeles

With Hyde and Johnson both in Cleveland, the Browns may feel there are more pressing needs to address with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, such as quarterback, rather than spend it on another running back in Barkley. The Browns need a quarterback (don't they always?) and also own the No. 4 pick in the draft.

Hyde was set to enter his sophomore season at Ohio State when he posted the tweet.

How this affects the Browns' draft will be interesting. Cleveland has had a busy few days, adding three players via trade and agreeing to deals with a handful of free agents.

Hyde, 27, is a former Ohio State standout and Cincinnati native, averaging a school-best yards per carry average in his Buckeye career (6.1), a single season (7.3 in 2013) and a game (10.2 against IL in 2013). He appeared in all 16 games in 2017 and rushed for 940 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Browns traded for quarterback Tyrod Taylor, wide receiver Jarvis Landry and cornerback Damarious Randall on Friday. In four National Football League seasons, Mitchell has 11 starts, including nine last season when he had four interceptions. Outside of the first year Hyde will be carrying the rock in Cleveland, the rest of that money is unlikely to be around unless the veteran back forces the Browns to keep him around for all three years of the deal. The team also is expected to sign offensive tackle Chris Hubbard once free agency opens.

Hyde, 27, is the initial answer to the loss of Isaiah Crowell, who agreed to terms on a three-year deal on Tuesday night. Crowell lamented not getting the ball more the past two seasons under Hue Jackson.

Adding Hyde could mean the Browns will wait for the second round to take a back. Hyde has been productive, but his injuries have been a concern.

His best season was in 2016 when he posted career highs by rushing for 988 yards and averaging 4.6 yards per carry.
