Vladimir Putin 'doesn't care' about alleged U.S. election interference

Susan Rice reportedly issued stand down order to NSC officials in response to Russian hacking

But U.S. intelligence concluded Moscow interfered in the 2016 presidential election with aims to help Trump, while special counsel Robert Mueller investigates the possibility of collusion between Russian Federation and the president's campaign.

"Why have you decided the Russian authorities, myself included, gave anybody permission to do this?" asked Putin in the interview.

Putin said that the indicted individuals are "not working for the government", and suggested instead, "perhaps some of them worked for one of the [other American presidential] candidates".

"We are ready to discuss any matter, be it missile-related issues, cyberspace or counterterrorism efforts", Putin said in an interview with NBC published by the Kremlin on Saturday.

In 2016, Vladimir Putin ordered nuclear war drill involving 40 million Russians and 200,000 specialist rescue units. So what? ... I don't care.

"I could not care less".

"They do not represent the interests of the Russian state".

Vladimir Putin addresses 2016 election meddling in a new, exclusive, interview with Megan Kelly. "We do not see what goal we would accomplish by interfering", Putin said.

A former senior Obama administration official involved in White House deliberations on Russian Federation has since said: "I feel like we sort of choked".

Kelly listed some of the accusations of Russian interference made by Mueller's office and other USA officials, including the spreading of false information online.

The Russian president also cast his own country as the victim of punishing US sanctions.

The Russian leader also rejected those assessments.

America's leading intelligence agencies concluded past year that Putin himself had directed a broad intelligence effort to influence the U.S. election to undermine Clinton's campaign and boost Trump's chances, but Trump has repeatedly denied colluding with Moscow. "Well, Donald is a more modern person", the Russian leader told the journalist.

Putin is facing little opposition in the presidential election whose first round is on March 18. "It's up to the Russian voters", he said.

"We are not the ones who labeled you our enemies". "Why did you do that?"

"Are we the ones who imposed sanctions on the United States?" he asked.

Putin also slammed the crippling sanctions the USA has imposed on Moscow in light of the activity. "I believe that the current president wants to do that, but there are forces that won't let him do it".
