Deadly explosion near Australian embassy in Kabul

Pakistan Army gives befitting response to Indian firing along Line of Control, said Asif

A suicide auto bomb early Friday morning struck a foreign troops' convoy in eastern Kabul, killing at least one civilian and wounding four more, according to the Afghan Interior Ministry.

Interior ministry spokesman Najib Danish says the bombing took place in the Qabil Bay area of Kabul where many expatriates reside.

"One civilian was killed, and eleven civilians were wounded as a result of the attack".

But a security source said up to 12 people had been wounded.

No non-Afghan casualties were reported in the bombing.

No group is yet to lay claim on the attack on Kabul, a city under heavy attacks from both the Taliban and the Islamic State.

The blast on last Saturday took place in the vicinity of Shash Darak area of the city after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives near the security forces.

A spokesman of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation mission Resolute Support said, "We are aware of these reports and are investigating a response".

At the blast site in the Qabil Bay neighborhood, blood pooled on the pavement amid rubble in front of a destroyed building.

USA ambassador in Kabul John R. Bass hailed Ghani's "very courageous stand" and his "commitment to pursue a peaceful settlement through talks" after more than 16 years of conflict, as officials said the onus was now on the Taliban to respond.

Kabul has recently seen a spate of large-scale militant attacks by the Taliban and also Daesh, whose affiliate in Afghanistan has grown stronger since it emerged in 2014. Gresback said no North Atlantic Treaty Organisation service members were injured in the incident.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has welcomed an offer from Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani to hold direct talks with Taliban without preconditions.

Since mid-January, militants have stormed a luxury hotel, bombed a crowded street, raided a military compound and launched a suicide attack during morning rush hour in the capital, killing more than 130 people. Meanwhile, the Taliban said Friday that they released five out of a total of 19 people they say they abducted on Tuesday along the boundary between the southern Kandahar and Uruzgan provinces. There was no information on the fate of the others.
