Israel arrests family of detained Palestinian teen

Detroit protest demands freedom for Palestinian teenager Ahed Tamimi

Mohammed required an "intensive surgery, where part of his skull was removed, in order to dislodge the rubber bullet", Amnesty International had reported.

"The above-mentioned patient presented to our hospital on 15/12/2017 immediately after a bullet injury (head trauma) by Israeli soldiers (left maxillary area entrance, no exit wound)", the document begins.

Ahed has said in court she was angry over her cousin being shot by soldiers hours earlier, but on Monday, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) Major General Yoav Mordechai contested that claim, after Mohammed and eight others were arrested in an IDF raid of the West Bank town of Nebi Saleh early Monday morning. His teenage cousin, Ahed Tamimi, known for spreading anti-Israel propaganda through "Pallywood" clips, was arrested in December after being filmed assaulting an IDF officer; she now faces charges in a military court, where she claims she was reacting to the violence afflicted on Mohammed. Ahed is now being prosecuted behind closed doors in an Israeli military court that has a conviction rate of over 99 percent. She had heard that Israeli soldiers shot her cousin just minutes before.

Ahed Tamimi is on trial over the scuffle in the village of Nabi Saleh, with her case gathering worldwide attention.

"We have become a symbol of nonviolent resistance, and they [Israel] don't want the voice of Palestine to be heard from anywhere or anyone", Bassem said, "who knows what they will do next".

Ahed was arrested in the midnight from her house. "I could not keep quiet and I responded as I did".

Over the course of the two months since Muhammad's injury and Ahed's detention, the extended Tamimi family of Nabi Saleh and its twin village Deir Nitham have seen over a dozen of their relatives arrested, at least three put on trial in military court, and one - 16-year-old Musaab Tamimi of Deir Nitham - shot and killed by Israeli forces.

Among the detainees was 15-year-old Muhammad Tamimi, who is scheduled to have reconstructive surgery on his skull on March 5th.

An army spokeswoman told The Times of Israel that "the 15-year-old was checked by an IDF medic and was found fit for custody". Gen. Mordechai revealed that during Mohammed's interrogation by the military on Monday, without the presence of a parent or lawyer, the boy had "confessed" that "he was injured while he was riding his bicycle and fell off it".

Due to the teen's age, the tape itself was not released.
