Samsung Max launches as a new tool for privacy protection, data savings

Samsung launches data-saving and privacy-protecting Samsung Max app for Android

Samsung has rescued Opera Software's Opera Max data-saving, privacy-protecting Android browser app from oblivion and relaunched it today as Samsung Max. The application is aimed at a replacement for Opera Max, which is one of the largest virtual private network (VPN) providers on mobile in the world. This includes a Data Saving Mode that compresses images, videos, music files, and webpages.

Two of the main features that Samsung Max comes with are Data Saving Mode and Privacy Protection Mode.

As the name suggests, Data Saving Mode is all about helping you use less data and potentially save money with your wireless carrier bill.

Samsung Max will monitor the data an app uses to highlight those that are consuming the most bandwidth. In addition, the app will also alert users about apps that are using "too much" background data.

Not only this, this app can encrypt your data when it is sent through non-secure Wi-Fi networks. Sit tight, and we'll see if Samsung makes this available on phones from different manufacturers soon.

In India, Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, Thailand and Vietnam, the Samsung Max app will come pre-installed on Galaxy A and Galaxy J series smartphones.

The app was given a number of new features over the past few years, but last August the company revealed it was pulling the plug on Opera Max once and for all. In the same vein, there is Samsung Max' data-savings cloud access to make data usage efficient and secure from third-party services.

While the Samsung Max by default serves ads, you can choose whether to view ads inside the app or on the lock screen only while your device is plugged in and charging.

"At Samsung, we've been committed to creating inclusive data saving and privacy protection services for all our devices", Seounghoon Oh, Vice President Samsung R&D Institute India said.

It is worth noting here that the Samsung Max app is presently incompatible with devices other than the eligible Samsung devices. The app known as Samsung Max can now be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

Starting on February 23, 2018, the application will be available for download on Google Play on select Samsung Galaxy devices.
