NRA CEO Gives First Speech Since Florida School Shooting

NRA executive vice president Wayne La Pierre rallies his troops in May

Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio have accepted invitations to participate in the town hall.

In the almost two weeks since the deadly mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, students have taken a stand and called for increased gun control laws.

"I want to like you. Here's the problem. Your comments this week and those of our President have been pathetically weak", he said to lasting applause and cheers. On Tuesday, he held a roundtable discussion on school safety and gun policy with state leaders and was set to meet with students Wednesday.

Guttenberg called on the senator to do something about guns. It showed him seeking a balance between satisfying those who have urged him to press for some gun curbs, and not alienating the powerful NRA gun lobby. "And the first to go will be the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution".

He told them he wants to see trained teachers, who could be paid bonuses, carry concealed weapons to ward off potential gunmen in schools. No, we announced Wayne LaPierre-I don't know if you follow me on Twitter, but I tweeted out that Wayne was coming weeks ago.

"I'm not just fighting for my kids".

"You guys love it".

Loesch also voiced frustrations with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which was warned about the alleged shooter's disturbing behavior prior to the incident, and law enforcement officials, who encountered warning signs about him prior to last week's killings.

"You guys love it", Dana Loesch said.

Loesch replied the NRA is waiting on the Justice Department to make a ruling on bump stocks.

During her intervention, she was interrupted by the sheriff of Broward County, Scott Israwel, who criticized her for telling the youths present she was fighting for them.

Mr LaPierre argued against interviewing buyers before they purchase a gun, and against restrictions on gun purchases in general. "I hope that people who address this topic on our stage do it understanding that people are in pain and we are so close to this awful tragedy, and have the right and appropriate tone".

Trump defended the NRA and its CEO, Wayne LaPierre, who have come under intense pressure from Parkland students and others who blame them for blocking gun laws that could help prevent future school and other mass shootings.

None of the politicians at the town hall were sympathetic to the thought. "I do not think that he should have gotten his hands on any kind of weapon".

Rubio and Rep. Ted Deutch agreed.

The vice president used the event to tout the administration's progress during the past year, including its resolve to stand firm against North Korea, a country he said is governed by "the most tyrannical and oppressive regime on the planet". "And we've got your backs".

"These are the young people that are going to change the world for the better".

In a heated exchange with Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter was killed in the Florida school shooting, and Sen.

The President pledged to go to work after the meeting ended. Students all over the country are going to be joining up, because the adults have let us down. "It wouldn't be right", he said.
