Microsoft lets iOS App transfer photos to PC

Microsoft's new photos app for iOS and Android lets you quickly transfer pictures to a PC

The transfer service is based around QR codes and Wi-Fi and works so long as the Windows 10 PC is on the same network as the Android or iOS device you want to move photos or videos from.

Have you been facing issue while transferring your photos to your Windows PC? The tech giant has launched a new Photos Companion app for iOS and Android devices which has been in testing for some months.

On the next screen, you can select the photos and videos you want to send to your Windows 10 PC over WiFi.

"Our solution was to build an app that would support direct wireless transfer between any phone or mobile device and the Photos app on any Windows 10 PC". Note that you must also use a company account if your app accesses financial account information as described in policy 10.8.3.

The app is developed as a part of the Microsoft Garage project.

The QR code is used to connect the mobile app with the Photos app on Windows 10. As we mentioned, your devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network to let you successfully transfer content.

According to Microsoft, when its Photos app was redesigned in 2017, the product team headed out to various U.S. and European classrooms to see how teachers were incorporating videos and images into their curriculum, and to encourage them to use the app. If you are still on the new version, head into the settings of the Photos app and click on the 'Join Preview' option.

It is to be noted that you already have the option to back up your photos and videos to a cloud service, such as Google Drive, iCloud, or even Microsoft's OneDrive.

Microsoft found that students were great at telling stories through video, but they had difficulties transferring content from multiple smartphones to a single PC where media projects are created. Your devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network to enable the transfer process.

"We began developing a simple, experimental app for iOS and Android to see if we could unblock educators and help them begin using the Photos app in their classrooms", Microsoft was quoted as saying by MacRumors.
