Snapchat Redesign Change.org Petition crossed 1million Signatures

Snapchat Now Offers Stories Analytics To The Platform's Influencers

"Many "new features" are unworthy or conquer the original functions Snapchat has had for the previous decades", the petition says.

Just after 3 p.m. EST Thursday Snapchat users started experiencing problems with the app.

In fact, a Change.org petition asking Snapchat to scrap the latest update has garnered more than a million signatures.

The changes were meant to separate interactions with friends from branded content - including that of celebrities and influencers.

Rumsey wrote that the upgrade "has, in actuality, made many features more difficult" to use.

This is a developing story and we'll update it once more information is available.

Back in November 2017, CEO of Snapchat, Evan Spiegel, released a 60-second video to demonstrate the then "upcoming" changes, where he explained "While blurring the lines between professional content creators and your friends has been an interesting Internet experiment, it has also produced some odd side-effects (like fake news) and made us feel like we have to perform for our friends rather than just express ourselves". Users claim the new version is harder to navigate, especially the new "content" page where content from celebrities and media outlets now flows.

But in a tweet, Snap advised against that.

"One of the complaints we got is, 'Wow, I used to feel this celebrity was my friend and now I don't feel like they're my friend anymore, ' " Spiegel said on stage at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference.

Rohan Midha, managing director of influencer marketing agency PMYB, told the BBC that Snapchat had made a mistake in removing celebrities and influencers from the "friends" section. If creators can approach fashion brands by saying their content fares best among 25-year-old females in major metropolitan areas who like shoes, that's a lot more valuable than just giving that brand a number of followers.

"But I don't think this large Silicon Valley company is going to take notice of a petition".
