Wanted Indian Mujahideen terrorist arrested

Details regarding the elusive Junaid came up when the police questioned Abdul Subhan one of the founding members of the Indian Mujahideen who was arrested last month.

The engineer-turned-terrorist was on a run since the September 2008 Batla House encounter when 2 suspects from the terror group were killed while two were caught red-handed. Khan was also associated with Atif Amin, who was killed in the encounter, the police said.

"He (Ariz Khan) was involved in many bombing incidents including 2008 Delhi serial blasts".

During the encounter, cops shot down two Indian Mujahideen terrorists but also lost one of its men, Insp.

Ariz Khan, an alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist arrested by the Delhi Police from the Indo-Nepal border, was nabbed after police got leads from the interrogation of suspected terrorists.

As a cover, Junaid took up a job as a school teacher in Nepal and lived with the name Salim.

Police said after fleeing from L-18, Batla House in Zakir Nagar, Ariz, along with his associate Shehzad, had sought shelter from their relatives. Khan had also helped put together bombs that went off in between 2007 and 2008 in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Uttar Pradesh and Jaipur.

Khan (32) had escaped from India to Nepal after the 2008 Batla House encounter and had settled in the Himalayan country. In three years, from 2014 till 2017, he met many IM sympathisers and in 2017, he started coming to India, police said.

He remained in Nepal till 2014 and during this period he came in touch with Riyaz Bhatkal who motivated him to come to Dammam, Saudi Arabia for arranging money to revive the IM in India, he said. He had planned to teach them a lesson and planted IEDs across the Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad courts which killed 15 dead, police said.
