'Disturbed' fan 'plots death' of popular YouTube star, breaks into couple's home

Gavin Free and Meg Turney Survived a Horrifying Home Invasion

One of the many messages recovered stated, "I want Gavin Free to die alone, with no children".

According to newly released New Mexico court documents, it all started on January 26, when Meg and Gav were awakened at around 3:40 a.m.by the sounds of a gunshot and glass breaking.

But part of that investigation includes assistance from homicide detectives with the Albuquerque Police Department who served a search warrant on Giles' Northwest Albuquerque apartment a couple of days after the shooting.

Christopher Giles was the name of the perpetrator and his intent (as gathered from evidence on his phone) was to kill Free.

An armed man drove 11 hours to break into the home of two YouTube personalities, forcing them to hide in a closet until police arrived and shot the home invader dead.

A YouTube couple's home was broken into by an armed man who was obsessed with the internet stars.

Free and Turney are most famous for their roles at Rooster Teeth productions, where they've worked on various different shows over the last decade.

Free and Turney have big YouTube followings, and Giles was a "disturbed" fan.

Gavin Free is the creator of the Slow Mo Guys channel on YouTube along with Daniel Gruchy; the duo created a YouTube ad-supported original series that launched last month.

Austin police say Giles fired both inside and outside the house, and when he fired at police, Officer Matthew Jackson returned fire.

"Single, lonely, and disturbed", was how police described the man in question, named as Christopher Giles. After hearing the gunshot, the officer fired back, killing the suspect, according to Assistant Police Chief Troy Gay. Giles had become enamored with Turney after watching various vlogs of hers. Apparently, Giles had "developed a fondness of Turney yet resented Free for his lifestyle and success", according to the search warrant.

"Thank y'all so, so much for each and every kind message today and a special thank you to the @Austin_Police for their quick response that night and their ongoing support during this hard time".

"Hey everyone. I just wanted to say thanks for all the support and concern regarding the recent incident".

The couple were not injured in the incident.
