Claude Puel keen to move on from Riyad Mahrez saga

Guardiola hails 'legend' Aguero after four-goal show

Sergio Aguero bagged his 12th hat-trick in a Manchester City shirt as he put Leicester to the sword in a resounding 5-1 win for Pep Guardiola's side.

Riyad Mahrez put in a transfer request to try to force through a transfer to the Etihad Stadium but after City refused to meet Leicester's valuation, the Algerian worldwide spent a week away from the training ground.

"We conceded the goals at a bad time, just at the beginning of the first half and just at the beginning of the second half", Puel said.

Leicester forward Vardy latched onto a loose ball before beating City defender Aymeric Laporte for pace and finished emphatically in the far corner.

Guardiola had hoped to have Riyad Mahrez among his options in the battle for honours on four fronts but City's bid to sign Leicester's star attacker on transfer deadline day last week fell short.

Mahrez could make his Leicester comeback against Manchester City on Saturday - live on Sky Sports - and ahead of that game, Guardiola heaped praise on his goalkeeper Ederson.

Despite his emphatic return, Leicester manager Claude Puel, said he was likely to miss the game at Etihad. But their second goal changed the game.

"We conceded a lot of chances in the first half, maybe got a little lucky, so at half time I tried to change things a little bit".

The former Barcelona boss believes that such a break will help his players as they face four matches across four competitions during the rest of February.

"Every time we dropped points this season, the next game we won, which is so, so important. If we are able to win the title it will be something special for us". "He has maintained good fitness to come back quickly".

The transfer failed to materialise and the Leicester winger made it clear how upset he was with the decision and chose to spend time away from the club, but made his return to training on Friday.

On Mahrez, Guardiola added: "Hopefully he will come back soon to play football". Of course it was tough for us against this team.
