Instagram Stories embrace the GIF

Google’s Gboard has a new update

Facebook-owned photo sharing platform Instagram has introduced a new option in its Stories feature, enabling users to add animated GIF stickers into pictures or video.

The GIF making feature has been available to iOS users since the beginning.

When selecting a photo or video to add to a Story, you'll see many GIF stickers to choose from, like amusing faces, a dog with sunglasses, a floating cheeseburger, plus plenty more.

Apparently the world needs more GIF stickers - at least that is what Instagram thinks and it is hard to blame them as everyone else has done it. It only takes a couple of steps beyond adding a "normal" sticker to your photo or video.

What do you think of the new GIF support in Stories?

To create a GIF, you will need to press the GIF maker button on the top edge of the keyboard, after which you will need to select the kind of GIF you want to make. "Users will be able to browse what's trending in pop culture or search for a sticker to match any moment".

You'll now be able to overlay your photos and videos with animated stamps like accessories, sparkles, or word art. I had to un-install and re-install the app to force the new feature to appear.

Instagram has also announced it will soon give users the ability to upload photos and videos of any size to Stories.

Make sure you've installed the latest version of the Instagram app.

If you love using GIFs, you can start adding by using the newly added option.

With the upcoming update, your pictures and videos can be shared in their original dimensions, be they in a square, portrait or landscape format. Any extra room will be filled with a custom color gradient.
