Dolores O'Riordan funeral: Bandmates, family pay tribute to Cranberries singer

Singer Dolores O’Riordan of Irish band The Cranberries performs on stage

She will be laid to rest in a private burial after her funeral at St. Aible's Church in Ballybricken on Tuesday.

We have to confess that a few tears were shed in HP Central shortly after noon when pretty much the entire radio dial was taken up with 2fm and independent stations simultaneously playing "When You're Gone".

Meanwhile, fans have been paying tribute to O'Riordan since her sudden death on January 15. "It's so profoundly sad that someone so young is taken from us, but it's equally important also to pay tribute to (her) work and music".

Dolores' sister Angela did the first reading, while the second was done by her nephew Andrew, who also performed at the end of the service alongside brother Daniel, both of whom had been members of the Limerick Pipe Band.

O'Riordan was found dead in a London hotel last Monday.

From a Catholic family, O'Riordan said she learnt much about music through her faith.

People in Limerick, Ireland, honored local hero Dolores O'Riordan in the most beautifully fitting way Monday night.

A statement released at the time by a spokesperson at her representatives Lindsey Holmes Publicity said: "Irish and worldwide singer Dolores O'Riordan has died suddenly in London today".

Canon McNamara, who remembered Dolores as having a "gentle voice, a loving smile and warm humour", also referenced the remaining members of The Cranberries, telling them: "It's tough for you too". She was there to record vocals for Bad Wolves' cover of the Cranberries' hit "Zombie" that day, which she penned in tribute to victims of an IRA bombing in March 1993.

Photographs of the Irish singer performing and one of her with the Pope, were placed along the church walls.

People at the event uploaded videos to social media showing others singing and holding candles.

The Metropolitan Police have said they are not treating her sudden death as suspicious. "For the past 29 years, Dolores was my friend, bandmate and writing partner", guitarist Noel Hogan added. "I was in prison and you came to see me" - yes in you go. Oh! "My heart is broken and it is beyond fix", he wrote. The energy she continues to radiate is undeniable. "I will continue to stumble around this planet for some time knowing well there's no real place for me now".

Sales and streams of the band's back-catalogue have rocketed in the days since her death.
